Phil Gayes wins 10 mile TT

On Tuesday 15th of May, in what were surprisingly sunny conditions three club members took part in the Clubs 10 mile TT Championships. Phil Gayes came out the winner with a time of 24:40, followed by Rich Coates and John Green.

Congratulations to Phil and well done to Rich & John. A huge thank you must also go out to Congleton CC for hosting and marshalling the event.

Club Run – May 13th

On Sunday May the 13th, Ten club members enjoyed a 60 mile club run. Heading for Eccleshall. They rode through Cheddleton, Consal, Dilhorne, Forsbrook, Stallington, Milwich, Marston, Yarlet, Weston & then onto Eccleshall. After an relaxed Cafe stop, they then returned to Leek via Barlaston, Meir Heath, Weston Coyney, Wetley Rocks & Cheddleton.

10 mile TT Championships

The Clubs 10 mile TT Championships will take place on Tuesday 15th May. It’s a Congleton CC evening event which takes place on the road between Congleton & Macclesfield. The meeting place is The Rising Sun car park in Macclesfield and first rider off is at 7:15pm, so it is advisable to be there around 6:45pm to sign on. Best of Luck to all!

Club Run – May 6th

On Sunday May the 6th. Ten club members & one guest rider Geoff from Addiscombe Cycling Club in London rode a scenic 44 mile ride. Heading for the Bollington Mill Cafe they rode through Rushton, North Rode, Gasworth, Macclesfield & Prestbury. After an enjoyable cafe stop in Bollington beside the Canal, they then returned to Leek via Pott Shrigley, Kettleshulme, Goyt Valley, Flash, The Roaches & Meerbrook.

Club Run – April 15th

On Sunday April the 15th, Twelve club members rode a scenic 55 mile ride. Heading for Carsington Water just outside Ashbourne. They rode through Bottomhouse, Ipstones-Edge, Wootton, Ellastone, Snelston, Edlaston & Osmaston. After an enjoyable Cafe stop they returned to Leek via Kniveton, Ashbourne, Blore, Ilam, Throwley Hall, Calton & Waterhouses.

Club Run – Easter Sunday

On a wet & windy Easter Sunday, Five club members rode a 55 mile ride through the Cheshire lanes. The ride took the riders through Rushton Spencer, Bosley, Gasworth, Capesthorne, Goostry, Homes Chapel & Hulme Watfield. Lets hope the weather is a little kinder next Sunday.

On Sunday January the 8th, Thirteen club members rode a scenic 45 mile ride. Heading for the excellent Monyash Old Smithy Cafe. They rode through Thorncliffe, Newtown, Longnor & then up the tough ‘alpine’ climb out of Crowdicote . After a cafe stop in Monyash, they then returned to Leek via Flagg, Chelmorton, Harpur Hill, Buxton, Allgreave & Danebridge.

Dear members and friends of Leek Cyclists’ Club.

It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce the passing of regular cyclist, respected friend and committed club member Paul Derbyshire.

On Sunday 25^th March 2012, whilst riding the regular Sunday Club ride, Paul came off his bike at speed, sufficient enough to end his life. Paul was surrounded by his club mates at the time, and unfortunately despite the best efforts of several brave riders, was unable to be resuscitated and succumbed to his injuries.

Words cannot express the sadness and shock felt by those club mates present, and those learning subsequently of his death. It is with heavy hearts that we mark the passing of such a gentle and dedicated club rider.

Rest in Peace dear friend, and may you continue your cycling adventures until we meet again once more.

Club Run – March 19th

On Sunday March the 18th. Seven club members enjoyed a scenic Forty mile ride in the hills, After a fast paced ride to Macclesfield through Rushton & Bosley. They hit the hills in Langley and then rode through Algrave, Gradbach & Flash. After an “Last of the Summer Wine” cafe stop in sunny Longnor, they then returned to Leek via Warslow, Newtown & Thorncliffe.

Club Reliability Ride – March 11th

On a very sunny March 11th, Leek Cyclists Club held its Club Reliability Ride & Club Presentation Buffet. A great turn out saw Twenty Five riders complete the tough 55 mile ride through the Peak District. The route took the riders through Bradnop, Onecote, Grindon, Milldale, Parwich, Longcliffe, Grangemill, Winster, Youlgreave, Lathkill Dale, Monyash, Crowdecote, Longnor & Thorncliffe. After the ride the riders enjoyed a much deserved Buffet at the Den Engel Belgian Bar. After the Buffet the Clubs 2011 Awards Presentation took place where awards were given out for various events(see the Events page for the winners). The day was a great success thanks to great weather, company & organisation. Hopefully they will be many more great rides like Sundays this year.

On Sunday February the 26th. Six club members enjoyed a scenic Forty mile ride in the hills, in preparation for the Clubs “Hilly” Reliability in 2 weeks. They rode through Rushton, Bosley, Sutton, Langley, Algrave, Gradbach & Flash. After an enjoyable cafe stop in Longnor, they then returned to Leek via Warslow, Onecote & Bradnop. Also another four club members enjoyed a Fifty mile ride through the Cheshire lanes.

On Sunday January the 15th, Seven club members enjoyed a sunny & fast paced 60 mile ride. Heading for the Cyclist friendly Jinja Bakes Cafe in Audlem they rode through Endon, Stoke, Keele, Madeley & Woore. After an enjoyable Cafe stop at the excellent Jinja Bakes Cafe they returned to Leek via Betley, Alsager, Church Lawton, Astbury, Congleton & Rudyard.

Leek CC Hilly Reliability 2012

On Sunday March the 11th, Leek Cyclists Club will be holding its annual Hilly Reliability Ride followed by a Buffet & the Clubs Awards Presentation. The Reliability Ride is a scenic 55 mile ride through the Peak Distrtict, which takes in some lovely lanes & challenging climbs. The ride will be followed by a Buffet at Den Engel Belgian Bar in Leek, which will cost £5. Places at the buffet are limited, so if you are interested in booking seats, please contact the email address below. The buffet will be followed by the Clubs Awards Presentation. The ride will start & finish at the Den Engel Belgian Bar in Leek, signing on is from 8.15am with the riders due to start at 8.30am.

On Sunday Febuary the 10th, Five club members enjoyed a 40 mile ride. Heading for Denstone Farm Cafe. They rode through Cheddleton, Wetley Rocks, Cheadle & Alton. After an relaxed Cafe stop, they then returned to Leek via Ellastone, Wootton, Bottomhouse & Thorncliffe. Also another group of club members rode the Congleton Cycling Club 65 mile reliability ride. Which was a scenic ride through the Cheshire Lanes. An enjoyable Sunday morning all round.

Congleton 49 mile Reliability Ride

On Sunday January the 22nd, Ten club members took part in the Congleton 49 mile Reliability Ride. Fighting strong winds the riders left the Market Place and rode over to Congleton. The 49 mile Reliability Ride started at Congleton Cycling Club and the route took the riders through Bosley, Gasworth, Macclesfield, Ollerton, Byley, Middlewich, Hasslington, Hassel Green, Astbury and then back to Congleton. After much deserved tea & biscuits the riders rode back to Leek. All considered a tough 75 mile ride but thoroughly enjoyed by all.

On Tuesday December the 27th, nine club members enjoyed a 65 mile ride. Heading for The Salt Box Cafe near Tutbury. They rode through Bottomhouse, Windy Harbor, Wootton, Ellastone & Cubley. After an enjoyable Cafe stop. They then rode back to Leek via Sudbury, Doveridge, Uttoxeter, Checkley, Cheadle, Dilhorne & Cheddleton. The sprint back into Leek was won by Ade Myatt with a real Time-Trial effort. A very enjoyable ride allround with the Sun shining & some great country lanes explored we couldn’t have asked for much more. The riders getting ready for the ride back to Leek.

Club Run – Christmas Social

On Saturday December the 10th, five club members enjoyed a relaxed 34 mile ride. Heading for Denstone they rode through Leek-Brook, Basford, Ipstones, Foxt, Oakamoor, Dimingsdale & Alton. After the cafe stop at Denstone Farm Shop, they returned to Leek via Ellastone, Stanton, Caldon Lowe & Bottomhouse. The sprint into Leek was won by Rich Whalley, who had the legs on the last climb back into Leek. A very enjoyable winter ride!

On Sunday December the 4th, nine club members enjoyed a challenging 60 mile ride. Heading for Tutbury they rode through Bottomhouse, Windy Harbor, Wootton, Ellastone, Cubley & Sudbury. After the cafe stop in Tutbury, they returned through Marchington, Uttoxeter, Rocester, Farley, Cotton, Foxt & Ipstones. The sprint back into Leek from Bottomhouse was won by Ade Myatt. A great ride all round.

Christmas Social

On Saturday the 10th of December members of Leek Cyclists Club are holding there Christmas Social. First there will be a club run leaving from Den Engel at 12am(2-3 hour ride). Then club members are meeting at Den Engel at 7.00pm for drinks followed by a meal at the The Rajah Curry House in Leek.

After an enjoyable cafe stop in Bollington they then returned to Leek via Goyt Valley (climbing the very tough Pym Chair Climb) Flash, The Roaches & Meerbrook.

On Sunday November the 20th, seven club members enjoyed a scenic 45 mile ride. Starting in the Market Place in the centre of Leek. They rode through Meerbrook, Danebridge, Wincle, Wildboarclough, Macclesfield Forest, Langley & Gasworth. They then rode over to Congleton stopping off at Congleton Garden Centre for a much deserved cafe stop. They then returned to Leek via Mow Cop, Biddulph, Lask Edge & Longsdon.

Mountain Bike Rides

Club Run to Bakewell

On Sunday the 13th November Twelve Members rode through the lovely thick fog to Bakewell via Thorncliffe,Longnor,Crowdicote and Monyash. With an enjoyable cafe stop in the centre of Bakewell they then returned via Youlgrave,Hartington & Warslow. An enjoyable ride in the hills all round!
