Leek CC 140th Anniversary

On the weekend of the 6th and 7th August Leek Cyclists’ Club will be celebrating their 140thanniversary, making them one of the longest running cycling clubs in the UK. Founded in1876 by WT Cook as The Leek and Moorlands Bicycle Club, the club went through a number of name changes before settling on Leek Cyclists’ Club in 1883.
To kick off the celebrations some of the hardier members of the club will be taking on a
monster circular cycle route from Leek to Shropshire and back on Saturday August 6th; 140 miles for the 140 years of Leek CC. The club will be welcoming them back with an
anniversary social event on Sunday evening in Den Engel.
Since 1928 Leek CC have run regular Sunday club runs but on Sunday August 7th the club will be at Leek’s very own Totally Locally. The club will be running fun competitions on their stall as well as at their sponsor Den Engel on Stanley Street. Also on display will be photos from throughout the club’s history. The Leek CC archives include some of the oldest photographs and records of cycle club activity in the UK and are of great historical interest.
