A large group of eighteen riders turned out due to the short and long groups meeting so we decided to ride out together to Denstone and split up there. We rode out along Leekbrook and Chedleton before turning for Cheadle. The pace was steady as we tried to keep together for safety. We turned off for Moberly and Freehay before reaching Denstone. “Two Sauces Symcock” was on fire and attacking despite his extensive ride prep of drinking the Wincle Beer festival dry!.
The long group of eight set off for Carsington via Ellestone. Here it was decided that as we were short on time, we would head for Ashbourne and called in to the Flower Cafe in the Market Place and enjoyed the shade, Coffee and Carrot Cake. We headed back by Thorpe and dropped down in to Ilam where much to our amusement, a few riders pulled over for Ice creams before the steep climb out of Ilam. Thankfully, they all made it up the slope and Chris E was on fire, attacking me all the way up. The Gun Hill TT looks to be even more exciting this year with this rider. We headed in to Whetton and along the Manifold Valley trail and met other riders enjoying the sun before climbing up to Butterton and Onecote where Chris E was on the front. We took on the long climb to Mooridge where Sean attacked on the final corner. Ant A set off alone along Morridge while we dropped down on the the main road and Lowehill before the final, mad sprint for Leek . We pulled in to Leek at twenty to two after a tough fifty two mile ride. Thanks to Paul H and Jamie J for leading the two rides.
