Leek Cyclists Clubs very own Craig Gilchrist is aiming to break the world record for cycling almost non-stop on a spinning bike. The current record stands at 224 hours, 24 minutes and 24 seconds and is held by Italian Patrizio Sciroli, but Craig aims to pedal for 233 hours, 33 minutes and 33 seconds. He will only be able to stop for 12 minutes sleep and three minutes to stretch after every eight-hour stint and must maintain a pace of at least 12mph. Craig’s marathon effort will take place at the Wallace Sport and Education Centre, in Abbots Road, Abbey Hulton, Stoke-on-Trent from Thursday November the 1st at 7pm until Sunday, November 11. Craig is also setting up a ‘free buddy bike’ next to him, where anybody can go along to support and pedal with him.
Craig hopes to raise more than £1,000 for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice during his ride. If you wish to donate you can Text CAGY75 to 70070 with the amount you wish to donate or go online to www.virginmoneygiving.com/
During this Sundays Club Run(November 4th) club members are riding over to support Craig, meeting in the Market Place at 9AM. New members always welcome.
